Saiwa Swamp National Park
Saiwa Swamp National Park is situated at 385km from Nairobi and twenty-seven kilometers from Kitale town in Trans-Nzoia District of Rift Valley Province. The park environment constitutes of swamp flora and forest. The swamp is inhabited by tall bullrushes and sedges.
The tourist destination was established to provide protection to the endangered Sitatunga, a semi-aquatic antelope. Further wildlife species commonly found in the swamp include the Genet cat, Otter, bushbuck, Serval cat, mongoose, and monkeys. The habitat is also rich in birdlife
The park can be toured all year round and can be accessed by road as it lies 27 km north of Kitale on the Kitale – Lodwar tarmac road.
The size of the park is 2.9 Km2 and it’s the smallest National park in Kenya. Its climatic condition a distinctive African wetland climate, varying from warm to cool humid to semiarid and it receives an average annual rain fall of about 1,260mm.
