Lake Nakuru National Park

Lake Nakuru National Park is located north-west of Nairobi about 164Km from Nairobi, a 2 hours drive from Nairobi central business district and 2km north of Nakuru town.

The ecosystem consists of the lake, enclosed by mostly wooded and bushy grasslands. The National park is home to Flamingos (Greater and Lesser) and other water birds being the main touristic attraction to the area. There are other species of wild animals that are found in the area including the white rhino, buffaloes and a variety of bird species that are found in the park; more than 450 species.

The park is also one of the best destinations in Kenya to spot leopards and the white rhinos.  It is also a successful sanctuary for rhinos and Rothschild giraffes and, with over 50 more mammal species for you to explore.

The park is dominated by a gentle rolling ground with open shrubs and woodlands, habitual of the dry rift valley flora.  Twenty-seven percent of the national park is covered by Lake Nakuru waters. In addition, the lake is inhabited by water mammals mostly hippopotamus. The lake was established as a National Park in 1961 and expanded over the years to 188 km2 to provide a perimeter buffer zone to safeguard the lake from encroachment by settlements and to minimize the impacts of urban and agricultural development in the immediate catchment.

The climate surrounding the lake ranges from cool to hot and humid, sometimes its referred to as dry sub-humid to semi-arid, which means it’s not too dry, too wet and, or too hot or cold. The climate in this region is really beautiful; you will feel relaxed and cool.
