Nairobi National Park

Nairobi National Park is the only protected area in the world close to a capital city offering a perfect destination to view the wild animals while in the city. The park which is situated only seven kilometers from Nairobi city centre offers a distinctive ecosystem.

The savannah ecosystem consists of diverse vegetation types. One can easily spot the scattered acacia bush which is predominant. It has a highland dry forest and a permanent river with a riverine forest.  Man-made dams have been created within the park that has added more concentration of the wild animals in one area.

Major wildlife attractions are the lion, Black rhino, hyena, leopard, cheetah, Giraffe, wildebeest, buffaloes, elands, zebra, and over 400 species which have been recorded here.  Other attractions include the Ivory burning site Monument, the Animal Orphanage, Nairobi Safari Walk, and other walking trails at hippo pools.

The size of the park is 117 Km2.
