Tsavo West National Park
Tsavo West National Park is situated in southeastern Kenya, about two hundred and forty kilometers from Nairobi along the western side of the Mombasa-Nairobi highway. The park’s habitat consists of semi-desert scrublands, open grasslands and Acacia woodlands, riverine flora, and rocky ridges.
Major wildlife attractions include rhino, giraffe, wild dogs, dik-dik, elephant, zebra, lions, leopards, hippos, crocodile, lesser kudu, cheetah, buffalos, mongoose, hyrax, nocturnal porcupine, diverse plant and bird species
The park is a vast expanse of savanna stretching from Mtito Andei, alongside the Mombasa Nairobi road and south to the Tanzanian border. The park can be accessed by road and air as there are about three airstrips in the park.
The size of the park is approximately 7,065 Km2 and its temperature ranges from 20-30 c with an annual rainfall ranging from 200mm – 700 mm. There are 2 rain seasons, long rains in March and April and short rains in November and December.

Gates to the Park include Lake Jipe, Tsavo, Mtito Andei, Ziwani, Chyulu, and Maktau. The main access routes are Mtito Andei Gate from Nairobi and Chyulu Gate from Amboseli.
