Mt. Longonot National Park
Mt. Longonot National Park is situated about 90km from Nairobi with a savannah ecosystem. The ecosystem mostly encompasses the mountain which rises to 2,776m above sea level. On the corners of the mountain are V-shaped valleys as well as ridges with minimal flora; although a thick forest occurs within the crater.
The name Longonot comes from the Maasai word oloonong’ot, which means mountains of many spurs. Apart from offering spectacular views and adventurous destinations, the park also has a small forest of trees that covers the crater floor, and small steam vents are can be spotted spaced around the walls of the crater
Major wildlife attractions include buffaloes, lions, Bushbucks, leopards, elands, giraffes, grant gazelles, common zebra, Thomson gazelles, and antelopes.
The size of the park is 52 km2 and the temperature of the destination ranges from 20-300 c and rainfall from 200mm – 700 mm
